Service Dog Obedience & Public Access

6 - Week Board and Train Program

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include pulling a wheelchair, protecting a person who is having a seizure, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task a dog has been trained to provide must be directly related to the person’s disability.

Ideal for: Dogs in the early stages of service dog training who need solid obedience, public manners, and exposure to different environments. This program lays the foundation for service work, ensuring the dog is reliable, neutral, and well-behaved in all situations.

Our Board & Train programs are immersive training programs where your dog stays with us at Nevada Canine Training Academy for the duration of their training. Unlike traditional boarding, your dog's stay is structured around daily professional training, consistency, exercise, socialization, enrichment, and real-world experiences based on the goals of their individual program.

Having your dog stay with us allows our trainers to work with them consistently throughout the day and reinforce good behavior in everyday situations—not just during a scheduled training session. This gives us the opportunity to build new habits, establish clear communication, and create reliable obedience that carries over into real life.

But Board & Train isn't just about training your dog. We train you, too. Owner education is a critical part of every Nevada Canine program. Through scheduled lessons and go-home instruction, we'll teach you how to communicate with your dog, use the training they've learned, and confidently maintain their progress at home.

Your dog lives, learns, and trains with our professional team while you gain the knowledge and tools needed to continue that success long after the program is complete.

Optional Add-On: Custom Task Training (Requires Additional Time)

Once the dog completes the 6-week service dog obedience program, additional weeks can be added to teach specific service dog tasks, such as:

  • Mobility Assistance (bracing and counterbalance)
  • Psychiatric Support (deep pressure therapy and blocking)
  • Retrieval Assistance (picking up objects and items)

Since task training is highly individualized, additional 2-8 weeks may be required based on the complexity of the tasks.

It is highly recommended that custom task training runs concurrent with the 6-week service dog obedience program. This will save our clients time and money.
